Goal of a beginner build

3 Kingdoms Online Remastered (Chinese title 三國鼎立Online Remastered, Steam AppID 4770830) is a free-to-play turn-based tactical MMO by Chinesegamer, released on Steam on 11 August 2026. It is online multiplayer, Steam-only, with Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese UI only (no English interface). Expect 15v15 boards, ten unit types, 27 terrains, remastered portraits, AI auto-battle, nation war, and campaigns such as Hulao Pass, Guandu, Changban Bridge, and Red Cliffs.

Your first formation should clear onboarding, claim value from Launch Rewards, recruit Inoti, and survive early Campaigns. Optimization for peak Nation War can wait until your hands know turn order from How to Play.

Core template: Shield, Sustain, Strike

Shield — infantry (步兵) or barbarians (蠻兵) on chokes. Sustain — medic (藥師), ideally Hua Tuo (華佗) when eligible. Strike — archers (弓兵) or cavalry (騎兵) depending on map width. Flex — Inoti wherever her role lands, plus one utility pick among engineers (工兵), strategists (謀士), or taoists (道士). The ten unit types are infantry (步兵), cavalry (騎兵), archers (弓兵), light infantry (輕裝兵), strategists (謀士), medics (藥師), engineers (工兵), taoists (道士), songstresses (歌妓), and barbarians (蠻兵).

Build A — Gate learners (Hulao-friendly)

Front two infantry, medic behind, archer column, engineer for objectives, light infantry (輕裝兵) as emergency peel. Ideal for Hulao Pass practice. Keep songstresses (歌妓) off the primary charge tile until you can micro them.

Build B — Open-field starters

Cavalry plus barbarian shock, medic, strategist for skill pressure, archer for chip. Use on wider training rooms before you trust cavalry in bridge stages like Changban. Read Terrain so mounts do not stall on bad tiles.

Build C — Gift showcase without greed

Slot every launch legendary that fits the template; bench the rest. A museum bench is fine—combat slots are not. Feed exclusive equipment to Shield/Sustain first. Details on spending order live in Launch Rewards and claim steps in How to Redeem.

Upgrade priority

  1. Medic survivability and skills
  2. Front-line weapons
  3. Primary damage dealer
  4. Utility that unlocks objectives
  5. Cosmetic portrait completion in the encyclopedia (nice, not first)

Parallel economy work belongs in Internal Affairs.

Practice script

Manual clear tutorial → claim gifts → recruit Inoti → manual Hulao → optional Auto-Battle farm only after two clean wins → try Guandu → browse Faction Comps for identity upgrades → sample PvP Builds once humans start targeting your healer.

Mistakes to avoid

Triple archers with no peel; spending all resources on a single vanity officer; ignoring engineers on fortified stages; auto-battling contested rooms; assuming English tooltips will appear; and never checking counters in the Unit Counter Tool.

Transition markers

When you can explain why a tile matters using Terrain Reference, when your medic survives the first focus attempt, and when you have a named role for Nation War, graduate parts of this list into PvP variants. Keep a beginner-friendly backup squad for teaching friends who also lack English UI comfort—point them at Getting Started.

Build boring winners first. Highlight-reel comps come after your win rate does.

Sample turn priorities for beginners

On turn one, move anchors onto defensive tiles before you advance damage. On turn two, reveal whether the enemy is committing cavalry or archers, then place peel accordingly. On turn three, spend healer resources only after you see the first focus attempt—wasting heals on chip damage is a classic launch mistake. Keep a written note of which officer died first across three Hulao attempts; that officer is either undergeared or standing on the wrong tile.

Gift integration table (mental model)

Hua Tuo or any medic equals sustain column. Inoti equals flex column. Exclusive weapons equal the shield or sustain column first. Resource piles equal training queues in internal affairs, not random skill books on bench officers. If a launch ticket produces an officer outside your template, park them in the encyclopedia collection path and keep your combat six clean.

Coaching script for friends

If you are teaching another English-speaking player, send them Getting Started, then this page, then Unit Types. Spectate one manual fight together. Pause when the AI would have walked a songstress forward and explain why. That single habit prevents more losses than any letter-grade tier screenshot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about units, gifts, campaigns, and nation war.

What is the best beginner core?

Infantry or barbarian front line, a medic such as Hua Tuo, and one reliable damage dealer—then flex Inoti and utility.

Should I use all launch legendaries at once?

Only if they fit roles. Bench extras rather than breaking formation logic.

Which campaign tests beginner builds?

Hulao Pass first, then Guandu once sustain is stable.

When do I switch to PvP builds?

After you can protect your healer against human focus and understand basic counters.
